The problem
Design a corporate gift for the Creative Industries Faculty International and Engagement team to give to domestic visitors and people and organisations on international visits.
The solution
A unique and memorable 4-piece coaster pack that is not only designed and potentially created by QUT but also represents Brisbane and promotes diversity, interdisciplinarity, and unity within the Faculty.
The impact
A unique corporate gift that provides its users with a sense of appreciation and recognition. The gift is also hard to replicate by competitors and effective at establishing rapport between two parties, and communicating interest in further collaboration, and making a positive impression.
RESEARCH
User persona and journey map
From research, persona and journey maps were created to capture the users and their pain points within the potential context of use.
Interviews
Six interviews were conducted with six individuals with different backgrounds and occupations who have had experience with corporate gift exchange in different contexts.
USER GROUP
Recruitment agents
Need a way to reduce stress by achieving a sense of appreciation and recognition.
FEATURES
Pitch
Summary of research and process of designing a tier-2 corporate gift.
Hero shot
The CI Cube encapsulates the essence of the University, Faculty, and Brisbane. The product is unique and memorable in the sense that it has a simple design, yet it emits a strong sense of self-identity.
CMYK
The product embraces a technical practice in visualisation to demonstrate an abstract perception. The visual resemblance of colour in CMYK printing effectively conveys the importance of the three Schools in nurturing creative capability.
Design narrative
The plates are made from acrylic with UV printed characters. The base is made from colonial pine which is a softwood timber native to South East Queensland. This type of wood is regionally important to commercial softwood plantations in Queensland, contributing to the preservation and expansion of Queensland forests.
SEQUENCE OF USE
Step 1: Remove
Detach the plates from the wooden base.
Step 2: Coaster
Use the plates as coasters.
